Corporate Social Responsibility

Green events are a natural part of doing business in Cairns & Great Barrier Reef.  The region is the most environmentally friendly in Australia, boasting 17% of the country’s eco-accredited tourism products.

Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef and its partners are committed to protecting the environment and conducting business sustainably by offering innovative solutions to minimise the carbon footprint of your event and exciting green team building activities.

Green location

Choosing to meet in Cairns & Great Barrier Reef will ensure a number of green credentials for your event, starting with a reduction in travelling time once delegates arrive at Cairns Airport, a short 10 minute drive from the city centre. The carbon footprint of conferences is reduced by Cairns having a convention precinct in the heart of the city placing delegates within easy walking distance of their conference venue, accommodation and local attractions.

Green venues

The Cairns Convention Centre, Australia’s first environmentally designed major public building, has won awards for its energy and resource conservation features.

Hilton Cairns and Mercure Cairns Harbourside are just two venues who offset the carbon emissions generated by events by purchasing carbon credits at no additional cost to the client.

Green incentives

Delegates can get involved in corporate social responsibility activities during their conference as part of a team building exercise, partner program or with post touring.

Plant trees with the Australian Rainforest Foundation, Skyrail Rainforest Foundation or Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, test your teams skills by assembling flat-pack toys for a local charity or undertake a sustainability seminar from the experts.

Green leisure

Many products in our region are accredited under the independent Eco Certification Program which runs in addition to the mandatory managements arrangements required by government departments.  Whether you are spending a day snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, wandering through ancient rainforests, rafting down rapids or soaring over the tablelands, your footprint can be minimal.
